Luca Chiancone retires. The professional boxing career of “Chiankong” comes to an abrupt and unexpected halt at just 27 years old. The Trieste-born fighter announced it himself on his Instagram profile, bidding farewell to competitive sports with the following bittersweet words:
“You have a severely torn retina; we need to operate urgently. Your career is over.”
It all happened so fast, so unexpectedly, that as you read these words, I still haven’t fully processed what is happening.
I will never fight again. What I have done for 13 years, the life I CHOSE to pursue, has just hit me with the hardest punch I have ever felt. I’ve always wondered how a person feels when diagnosed with a terrible illness. My life outside the ring is still in my hands, but the other life—THE ONE I built with so much sacrifice and joy—has literally slipped away, never to return…”
During his four years as a professional, Chiancone compiled a record of ten wins, one loss, and two draws. Known for his reckless style and unorthodox technique, “Chiankong” relied on the raw power of his punches to destabilize opponents and carve his path to victory.
His two heart-pounding battles in 2023 against Tuscan boxer Yassin Hermi were particularly memorable—both evenly contested and full of dramatic twists. Also remarkable were his knockout victories over good fighters like Joshua Nmomah and Giovanni Rossetti.
The only fighter to neutralize Chiancone was Dario “Spartan” Morello, who in April last year managed to tame the relentless Triestino, edging him out on points after a hard-fought contest that was anything but one-sided.
“Chiankong” quickly bounced back from that setback, demolishing Spain’s Fernando Jaquero in just two rounds, and seemed poised to chase bigger goals. Unfortunately, fate had other plans, depriving Italian boxing of one of its most spectacular and fearless fighters.
From all of us at Boxe Punch, we extend our heartfelt wishes to Luca Chiancone for a speedy recovery, confident that he will face life with the same ferocious determination he brought to the ring and that he will achieve great success in his next chapter.
