This Saturday, Croatian giant Filip Hrgovic will fight at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster, United Kingdom, where he will face hometown boxer David Allen, known as “White Rhino.” Many observers believe the matchup is excessively one-sided, to the point of posing a risk to the British fighter’s health, but Allen disagrees with that assessment.

Allen recently spoke about it with reporters from The Ring. Here is what he said:

“People talk about this being a dangerous fight but I boxed Luis Ortiz after 19 fights amateur and pro, with no experience at all and on two weeks notice. I boxed Tony Yoka on two weeks’ notice. Is this guy any better than they was at them points in their careers? I’m not sure that he is. I’m a better fighter now, so I don’t get that. He’s a big favourite but it’s not a dangerous mismatch by any means.”

David Allen fought his last professional bout in February, when he knocked out modest French boxer Karim Berredjem in the first round, improving his record to 25 wins, 8 losses, and 2 draws.

Hrgovic, meanwhile, has tasted defeat only once since turning professional. It happened in June 2024, when the Croatian was stopped in eight rounds by current WBO world champion Daniel Dubois. On that occasion, Hrgovic started well, landing several high-quality right hands to the face, but was eventually overwhelmed by his opponent’s relentless aggression.

The Balkan fighter then revived his career with decision victories over British boxers Joe Joyce and David Adeleye, and now hopes to position himself as the next opponent for rising star Moses Itauma. To do so, he will first have to defeat Allen this Saturday, preferably in convincing fashion.
