The Italian “Interim” Light Heavyweight Title took center stage last night on RaiSport, in the main event of the fight night organized at the PalaMacchia in Livorno by Mario Loreni’s Promo Boxe Italia. The 41-year-old, never-giving-up Federico Gassani attempted to conquer the division against the unbeaten Aleksander Ramo. The fight went to the scorecards and ended in a Split Decision (96-94; 96-94; 94-96) in favor of Ramo, allowing the boxer managed by Massimiliano Duran to remain undefeated with a record of 16-0 (8 KOs).
The crowd in Livorno was electric in support of their hometown fighter, who appeared emotional and fired up, while Ramo remained extremely focused.
The fight started with two study rounds, where the home fighter managed to keep Ramo at bay with his jab, as the latter cautiously tried to figure out how to break through Gassani’s guard. With a significant reach advantage, Gassani initially seemed to have the upper hand.
As the rounds progressed, Ramo began to close the distance, landing solid left hooks, sometimes in combination, in an attempt to neutralize Gassani’s long-range tactics. Aleksander’s consistent bodywork became increasingly intense as he sought to break down his opponent’s guard. Gassani remained compact in defense and tried to use his footwork to move around the ring, but Ramo continued his relentless pressure.
The arena was heating up, and the tension escalated when the judges’ first scorecards were announced, showing Gassani slightly behind. This spurred him into action in the fifth round, where he attempted to time and counter Ramo, who, gaining confidence, kept increasing the pace.
At one point, Gassani seemed to find his best weapon in the straight right hand, causing some cuts and swelling around Ramo’s left eye. However, he didn’t fully capitalize on it and was met with body combinations and Ramo’s signature left hook, which had become a key shot in his offensive strategy.
The fight intensified in the later rounds, with both fighters engaging in thrilling exchanges from the eighth round onward, each determined to claim the belt. However, despite his efforts, Federico Gassani couldn’t mount a full comeback. At the end of the fight, visibly disappointed, he admitted his frustration in the post-fight interview, while Aleksander Ramo celebrated his victory, remaining undefeated and determined.
