According to well-known American journalist Mike Coppinger on ESPN.com, the defamation lawsuit filed by Eddie Hearn against Jake Paul will move forward. A U.S. District Court judge in New York rejected a motion to dismiss the case on Monday, and a new hearing has been scheduled for October 16.
The famous promoter sued Paul over statements made by the YouTuber-boxer in 2022, when Paul accused Matchroom of bribing American judge Glenn Feldman to favor Eddie Hearn’s fighters in two specific fights.
The “contested matches,” according to Jake Paul, were the one between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, which took place on April 30, 2022, at Madison Square Garden in New York, and the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua at the Superdome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In both cases, Feldman scored in favor of Matchroom’s athletes, with a 97-93 for Katie Taylor and a 115-113 for Anthony Joshua.
Both Hearn and Feldman have called the accusations false and baseless. Now, the head of Matchroom is seeking compensation for damages, with a court demand exceeding 100 million dollars.
In the coming months, we will find out if Jake Paul can produce enough evidence to justify his serious accusations and what legal developments will follow. Meanwhile, the social media star continues his professional boxing career and will face former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson on November 15.
