Farewell to Israel Vazquez. “El Magnífico” leaves us at just 46 years old

Sadly, “El Magnífico” Israel Vazquez has passed away. The former Mexican boxer left us at the young age of 46 after battling cancer. A super bantamweight world champion, Vazquez thrilled fans throughout his career with his lion-hearted courage and reckless style. Combined with his incredible power and granite chin, these qualities made him an unstoppable offensive fighter.

The four unforgettable battles he had with his compatriot Rafael Marquez will forever remain vivid in the memories of boxing fans. These epic, intense encounters earned the well-deserved recognition of being named Fight of the Year twice.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman shared two farewell posts on X to honor the immense warrior who left us too soon:

“Israel Vazquez is finally resting in peace . May God give strength and support to his wife Laura, their children, family and friends during these difficult times. Gracias campeón por dejar una huella tan especial. Siempre serás el Magnífico”

“Thank you Israel for the so many great memories that you have given us through your actions inside the ring but most importantly outside of it. You are now eternal , rest in peace, everything will be all right.”

The second post is accompanied by a photo of Vazquez raising his arm in triumph, the WBC world title belt around his waist. Beside him stands the legendary trainer Freddie Roach, who called El Magnífico one of the most talented fighters he ever had the honor of working with.
