Last night in Bologna, two titles were at stake during the Bologna Boxing Night at the PalaDozza. The event was organized through the collaboration between Bolognina Boxe and Promo Boxe Italia. On the card, Pamela Noutcho claimed the IBO lightweight title by Split Decision (click here to read our full report), while Ghaith Weslati captured the Italian featherweight title with a fourth-round technical knockout over Nicolò “Il Toro” Setaro.
Weslati and Setaro, both just 25 years old, faced each other for the vacant belt. Setaro immediately accepted the opportunity after learning he would replace the injured Raffaele Imparato.
As the opening bell rang, the feeling-out phase began. Setaro absorbed a left hook, while Weslati mixed his levels effectively, landing solid right hands to the body, staying composed and active behind his jab.
In the second round, Weslati came out more aggressively. The pace quickened — Setaro kept a tight guard and connected with some accurate right hooks, while the Livorno-based fighter stayed sharp, disciplined, and busy with both hands.
The third round started with Setaro pressing forward, targeting the body and trapping his opponent against the ropes. But Weslati remained calm, countering with crisp uppercut-hook combinations that troubled “Il Toro.” Weslati’s body shots began to take a toll, and near the end of the round Setaro went down for a count. He managed to get up, visibly shaken, and was saved by the bell.
Early in the fourth, Weslati unleashed another precise combination, flooring Setaro again with a left hook. The referee immediately waved off the bout — the Lombard fighter was clearly in no condition to continue.
From the very beginning, Weslati made it clear he was determined to win at all costs. The young fighter of Tunisian descent is now deservedly the new Italian featherweight champion.
His coach, Lenny Bottai — himself remembered for many thrilling battles in the ring — was overjoyed with his pupil, who now proudly wears the tricolor belt and can rightfully set his sights on even greater goals.
