It feels like just yesterday that, on a hot summer day, I uploaded about twenty articles to the online platform and kicked off this bizarre, crazy, and in some ways romantic adventure called Boxe Punch. It was June 18, 2024, and the site came to life without any of us who knew about it (namely me and a few close friends) having the slightest idea where this journey would take us. A year has passed since then, and the results we’ve achieved have gone far beyond even the most optimistic expectations.
To be fair, my expectations were never marked by delusions of grandeur. The main goal was simply to rekindle two passions that have warmed my soul and made me feel alive for the past twenty years: writing and boxing. Both had been partially shelved after the birth of my daughter, but they came knocking again in my subconscious, through a little voice that kept whispering at regular intervals, “I want to write again. I want to tell the story of today’s boxing and that of the past.”
This adventure, born solely from the desire to focus on what I love, has taken an unexpected turn and, over the course of these twelve months, has brought me so much satisfaction that it’s pushed me to raise the bar of my ambitions. Below is a brief (and by no means exhaustive) list of our achievements that have made me particularly proud.
1) Breaking into the international scene
Our decision to publish articles in three languages has proven to be a winning move, as it has allowed us to be discovered by boxing fans and insiders from all over the world. The compliments and expressions of appreciation for Boxe Punch from internationally renowned journalists—whom I will never thank enough for their kind words—have convinced me that we’re on the right path to building something meaningful.
2) Bringing in a champion like Andrea Sarritzu
The opinion of someone who came within inches of a World Title and won the European Title twice is worth much more than that of just anyone. That’s why I’m truly thrilled to have featured Sarritzu on our platform with a column that turned out to be both fascinating and full of original insights. Should he ever wish to return and share his views on any boxing-related topic, Andrea will always have a blank slate here to do so.
3) Conducting a video interview with WBO President Gustavo Olivieri
What makes me most proud about the interview with the very kind Mr. Olivieri (click here to watch it) is not just that he agreed to answer our questions, but that the entire exchange of messages was made possible by his own decision to follow the profile I use to share our articles on X (Twitter). It’s proof that our work hasn’t gone unnoticed, even in the eyes of the highest levels of the boxing world.
4) Involving legends of Italian boxing
Our “prediction roundups” (click here to read one), published ahead of major global boxing events, have drawn tremendous interest—so much so that they were even mentioned live on air by Alessandro Duran during a DAZN broadcast. It was a real pleasure to connect with former boxers who helped write the history of Italian boxing and invite them to take part in a little game that allowed them to offer our readers valuable technical and tactical insights on the upcoming bouts.
5) Building a fantastic social media community
Our Facebook page (click here to visit it) was launched in September 2024 and in less than a year it has reached the remarkable milestone of 5,770 followers. I’d like to personally thank each and every one of you for your likes, comments, and shares. Every interaction gives us that little extra push to aim even higher, and we’ll continue to repay your support by providing quality content, emotional videos, curious anecdotes, professional reports, and fascinating stories about boxing champions from all eras.
Of course, these milestones don’t bear my signature alone, and I consider it a duty to express my gratitude to those who, alongside the already mentioned Andrea Sarritzu, have stood by me on this journey into the unknown. I’d like to thank, in no particular order:
Simone Litterini, who, with patience and dedication, handled the technical aspects of the website and quickly stepped in to fix any issues or malfunctions.
Vitalba Tanzarella, my life partner and my source of inspiration, whose support, advice (which I probably should have listened to more often), and occasional but precious articles have been a true pillar for me.
Alessandro Preite and Domenico D’Agostino, who came aboard in open seas and lightened my workload with their fantastic articles, making my life much easier while also raising the quality and diversity of the site.
The former members of the old Mondoboxe forum with whom I’m still in contact: avid and tireless readers of our articles who, through their praise but also their constructive criticism, have helped us constantly improve.
But as the title of this piece suggests, Boxe Punch has no intention of resting on its laurels. The best is yet to come: encouraged by the successes of our first year, we’re determined to double down in our second season. Over the next twelve months, we plan to go even further—adding new contributors to our team, growing our readership, expanding our social media community, increasing our international visibility, and interviewing more big names from the Italian and global boxing scenes.
So fasten your seatbelts, because the second year of Boxe Punch will be even more exciting than the first, and if you’re kind enough to keep riding with us, we promise you a wave of surprises!
