Zhilei Zhang is patiently waiting for a response. According to his team, the gigantic Chinese heavyweight was contacted by Queensberry Promotions three weeks ago and received a formal proposal to face Derek Chisora on December 13. Although Zhang accepted and signed the contract, he hasn’t heard back since.

It’s possible that Chisora is exploring other options and that a fight with Zhang isn’t his top choice. The British boxer recently posted a sort of poll on social media, asking fans to choose among three possible opponents for his 50th professional bout—none of whom included Zhang.

The three names mentioned by Chisora were Deontay Wilder, Jarrell Miller, and Dillian Whyte. However, it seems unlikely that Wilder will be selected, since the Bronze Bomber has already announced that he will return to the ring in January 2026.

If Whyte were to be chosen, he and Chisora would meet for the third time. The two British heavyweights already fought in 2016 and 2018. The first encounter was a brutal war that Whyte narrowly won on points. The rematch was far more tactical but ended dramatically, with Whyte knocking Chisora out in the eleventh round while trailing on two of the three scorecards.

Chisora is currently in high spirits, having won his last three fights—two of them as the underdog according to bookmakers.

Zhilei Zhang, on the other hand, is eager to bounce back after suffering a heavy knockout loss to Agit Kabayel in February. Zhang managed to floor his aggressive opponent in the fifth round but was later overwhelmed by relentless pressure and went down after a sustained body attack.

If Zhang and Chisora really do square off in December, their combined age will be an impressive 83 years. Both men are clearly in the twilight of their careers, unlikely to earn more major opportunities, yet still capable of delivering an entertaining slugfest thanks to their aggressive styles.
