A weekend packed with top-tier boxing is just around the corner! The city of New York will host two thrilling cards on Friday and Saturday nights, featuring major names from the current world rankings. Kicking things off will be an all-female card at Madison Square Garden, culminating in the third chapter of the captivating saga between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. The following day, all eyes will be on the Louis Armstrong Stadium, where at least three exciting matchups await, including the highly anticipated main event: Shakur Stevenson vs William Zepeda Segura. Here’s a brief preview of what’s coming.
Friday, July 11 – Madison Square Garden (New York) – Live on Netflix
Main Event: Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano 3 – WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO Super Lightweight World Titles
The first two fights lit up the arenas and sparked heated debates over the judges’ scorecards. Both times—despite fighting in the U.S.—Katie Taylor edged out a razor-thin points victory, and both times the action was more intense and thrilling than many men’s world title bouts.
Serrano is the more powerful of the two, comes forward relentlessly, applies suffocating pressure, and throws a tremendous volume of punches. Taylor moves more swiftly on her feet, is more accurate, and prefers to counter with her brilliant timing. Everything points to yet another epic battle.
Undercard: Seven Must-Watch Women’s Fights
The undercard will feature seven women’s bouts, four of which are world title fights. Ellie Scotney and Yamileth Mercado will unify the IBF, WBO, and WBC super bantamweight belts. Alycia Baumgardner will defend her undisputed super featherweight crown against challenger Jennifer Miranda. England’s Savannah Marshall and America’s Shadasia Green will unify the IBF and WBO super middleweight titles. The winner between Cherneka Johnson and Shuretta Metcalf will take home all four bantamweight world titles. Chantelle Cameron will put her WBC Interim super lightweight belt on the line against Jessica Camara. Also worth mentioning are two non-title eight-rounders: Ramla Ali vs Lila Furtado and Tamm Thibeault vs Mary Casamassa.
Saturday, July 12 – Louis Armstrong Stadium (Queens, New York) – Live on DAZN PPV
Main Event: Shakur Stevenson vs William Zepeda Segura – WBC Lightweight World Title
A clash of contrasting styles: on one side, Stevenson’s elusiveness and masterful defense; on the other, Zepeda’s relentless pressure and astonishing punch output. We’ll break this fight down in detail tomorrow in our “Fight of the Week” feature.
Alberto Puello vs Subriel Matias – WBC Super Lightweight World Title
After being dethroned by Liam Paro—who neutralized his furious assaults with constant movement and excellent speed—Subriel Matias is determined to reclaim a world title, and you can bet he’ll unleash his usual aggression to do so. Will southpaw Puello be able to keep him at bay with sharp counters, or will he be overwhelmed by the pressure? The ring will give us the answer!
Edgar Berlanga vs Hamzah Sheeraz – 12 Rounds, Super Middleweights
A key crossroad for these two heavy-handed fighters. Berlanga is coming off an easy KO win after his clear points loss to “Canelo” Alvarez and is eager to re-enter the elite with a statement victory. Sheeraz, meanwhile, saw his stock drop following a draw with Carlos Adames—a result most neutral observers considered a gift from the judges. Now the Brit has moved up in weight and is out to regain lost credibility. A clash that promises fireworks and has a strong chance of ending before the final bell.
