There are many doubts surrounding the sporting future of Deontay Wilder, who has seemed to be on the decline following his recent losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang. Although many believe the American would be better off retiring rather than risking further humiliation, the Bronze Bomber has not officially hung up his gloves yet, which is why there are various speculations about what he might decide to do next.
One of the rumors suggests that he might attempt to become world champion in the newly introduced WBC bridgerweight division. Wilder would easily fit within the weight limit of 102 kilograms, and if he does choose this path, he would face the current titleholder, Lawrence Okolie.
When asked by Betway about this possibility, the British boxer expressed his enthusiasm:
“I think it would be a great fight. And he’ll always have what leaves people late and that’s his punching power and the name – Deontay Wilder. If I’m boxing Wilder, no matter what I say, I’m going to be a little bit apprehensive and think, ‘Okay let’s see what his power is like’.”
We’ll see if Wilder confirms his intention to take this step or if it’s just baseless speculation.
