After a highly respectable professional career spanning more than sixteen years, Gianluca Ceglia has stepped away from competitive boxing and has no intention of reversing that decision. On October 18, however, fans will have the chance to see him back in the ring for an evening devoted to a worthy cause, alongside former amateur world champion Domenico Valentino.
The two men will cross gloves in an exhibition bout at the Gianluca Ceglia Boxing Club, located in Via Sanguette, in the town of San Valentino Torio, in the province of Salerno. The event will also feature ten amateur boxing bouts and will conclude with a final buffet. Special guests are also expected to attend in order to celebrate the end of Gianluca’s sporting journey.
What matters most, however, is the main purpose of the event. All proceeds will in fact be donated to the oncology department of the hospital in Pagani. Those who attend will therefore not only have the opportunity to see two fighters who have given Italian boxing fans many memorable moments back in action and enjoy the bouts featuring the young boxers on the undercard, but will also make a tangible contribution to helping people facing extremely difficult circumstances.
Gianluca Ceglia won several titles during his professional career, from the Italian title to the IBF International belt, as well as the European Union title and the European Silver title. He always fought with courage and determination, even when travelling abroad to face high-level opponents. Today, however, by choosing to celebrate his farewell to competitive boxing in this way, he has shown that he is a true champion outside the ring as well.
Naturally, credit must also go to Domenico Valentino, whose willingness to take part in the event — combined with his prestigious record — has helped generate even greater interest and appeal among boxing fans.
