Last February 4 brought great news for Italian boxing and the entire movement: Michael “Lone Wolf” Magnesi was promoted to number one in the WBC super featherweight rankings.
Just a few days after the announcement, yesterday the Italian Boxing Federation (FPI) and A&B Events – Team Magnesi somewhat surprisingly revealed, while awaiting the big world title opportunity, that Magnesi will return to the ring sooner than expected. He is set to fight again on February 27 in his hometown of Cave (Rome). The bout will take place during a major event headlined by the EBU Silver flyweight title clash between Italy’s Manuel Rizzieri and France’s Rakib Mohamed Radji.
Only today, however, was the name of Magnesi’s opponent officially confirmed: the 35-year-old Argentine from Paraná, Marcos Gabriel “La Maquinita” Martinez (23–6–0).
The South American represents a solid test for Magnesi, as he is a thoughtful and technically sound boxer with good stamina, capable of making excellent use of the jab to control distance and to set up both offensive combinations and defensive strategies.
“Lone Wolf,” on the other hand, is a pure fighter who applies constant pressure, looking to cut off the ring and shorten the distance. For this reason, the clash with the Argentine will help him test his upper-body movement and his pinpoint timing ahead of the major challenges that await him.
