Official: Deontay Wilder vs Derek Chisora set for London

After weeks of rumors, the fight between former world champion Deontay Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) and veteran Derek Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) has now been made official. The bout will take place on April 4 in London, at the O2 Arena, and is expected to be broadcast live on DAZN, under the promotion of MF Pro and Queensberry Promotions.

In recent days, Wilder has been widely discussed—first because of personal matters, and then due to Oleksandr Usyk’s comments, as the Ukrainian champion stated he would like to face him, calling Wilder “one of the best heavyweights of the last 10 years.”

Indeed, prior to the trilogy with Tyson Fury, the Baltimore-born fighter was undefeated and had wiped out all his opponents with his fearsome right hand. However, he has since lost four of his last six bouts.

Wilder was a late starter in boxing, having previously played American football before climbing to the heavyweight throne. His technique may not be refined, but he has always relied on devastating power.

Derek Chisora, the popular 42-year-old hometown favorite, will enjoy the full support of the London crowd on fight night.

What links the two fighters is their respective trilogies—both lost—against “The Gypsy King” Tyson Fury.

In recent weeks, speculation had grown about a possible third all-British showdown between Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte, following Whyte’s defeat to Itauma. In the end, however, the official announcement arrived: it will be Wilder vs Chisora.

After the heavy loss to Zhilei Zhang, “The Bronze Bomber” (a nickname derived from both his power and the bronze medal he won at the 2008 Beijing Olympics) seemed finished. Now, instead, he returns to a major stage for what could be one final attempt at another run toward the belts.

Will Wilder be able to resurrect his career by putting on a show against Chisora and aiming once more for the crown, or are his chances truly gone, with the hometown favorite spoiling the last hopes of a sensational comeback?
