Eduardo “Sugar” Nunez successfully defended his IBF super featherweight title against Christopher Diaz. He claimed a unanimous decision victory (117-109, 117-109, 116-110) at the Centro de Usos Múltiples in Los Mochis, Mexico. It was a courageous performance from the challenger, as both fighters delivered an all-action war in yet another classic Mexico vs Puerto Rico clash.

The fight began with Nunez immediately working behind his jab to control the distance. Diaz started quietly but proved effective when he waited and countered with his right hand.

The second round was still a tactical affair, with the champion continuing to land sharp jabs that kept Diaz at bay. The Puerto Rican tried to close the distance, but without much success.

In the third, Diaz started to use his jab to push forward, following advice from his corner, but Nunez seemed faster and consistently timed his shots better. In the final minute, the fight heated up, with both men trading powerful and accurate right hands.

The fourth round saw Diaz come out aggressively, but Nunez responded by retaking the center of the ring and pressing forward with strong combinations. “Pitufo” showed his toughness, proving hard to break down.

The Mexican crowd roared for their hometown hero as the fifth round unfolded. It was a more balanced frame, with both fighters taking a step back after the action-packed fourth.

By the sixth, Nunez regained command of the center of the ring and unloaded vicious body combinations on the challenger, who struggled under the pressure. It was a clear round for the champion.

The seventh round played out much like the sixth, with Nunez pressing forward relentlessly. Diaz tried to answer back with heavy right hooks, but left himself open—and halfway through, he went down! He claimed it was a slip, but the referee counted it as a knockdown. Later in the same round, Diaz hit the canvas again. Two knockdowns from two right hands made it a near-perfect round for the Mexican.

The eighth brought fierce inside exchanges, with Diaz, now aware he was behind on points, pushing hard to turn the tide. The later rounds became the most thrilling of the fight.

The ninth and tenth rounds were wars of attrition—Nunez fast and sharp, Diaz loading up on every punch. Both landed punishing body shots that echoed through the arena.

In the penultimate round, Diaz knew he needed something big to take the belt, but Nunez seemed fresher, unleashing endless combinations and showing incredible stamina as if he could fight another ten rounds.

The twelfth and final round was a brutal toe-to-toe battle, two proud Latino warriors determined to give the fans maximum entertainment.

It was a great fight—tough, relentless, and entertaining. Diaz remained focused and brave throughout, but he couldn’t overcome the jab, ring IQ, and relentless combinations of the Mexican, who rightly retained his belt. The IBF title may not carry the same prestige as the other sanctioning bodies, but the bout certainly delivered excitement.
