Recently involved in one of the most thrilling fights of recent years against the tough Ukrainian boxer Serhii Bohachuk, Texas powerhouse Vergil Ortiz Jr is already hungry for new prestigious challenges. In a post published on X, Ortiz informed his followers about the three names he would like to face in the near future with the following words:
Top 3 fighters who I would love the chance to run it against
- Terence Crawford
- Errol Spence
- Sebastian Fundora
All talented fighters. No disrespect here, I just wanna prove myself against the best
Crawford is coming off a tougher-than-expected victory against the talented Uzbek boxer Israil Madrimov, whom he defeated on points thanks to a spectacular late-round performance. Bud’s plan seems to include a super fight against super middleweight king Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, but Canelo’s apparent reluctance to entertain the idea could push the American towards other targets.
Errol Spence hasn’t fought since his catastrophic defeat at the hands of Crawford, who knocked him out in nine rounds in a one-sided welterweight unification fight. There has been much speculation about his possible comeback against Sebastian Fundora for the WBC and WBO super welterweight titles, but the fight has yet to be officially announced. Some suspect that “The Truth” may no longer have much left to give at the highest level, but the American seems unwilling to retire.
Fundora, on the other hand, surprisingly became world champion with an excellent performance against the highly regarded Tim Tszyu, the son of a boxing legend. The towering American was, however, helped by a terrible cut suffered by his opponent early in the fight, which forced Tszyu to battle with partially impaired vision due to a constant and unstoppable flow of blood.
We’ll see if Ortiz gets his wish and earns the opportunity to fight one of the three boxers he mentioned.
