Flavio D’Ambrosi Re-elected as President, with a Renewed Team

The 39th National Electoral Assembly of the Italian Boxing Federation was held yesterday at the Hilton Rome Airport Hotel in Fiumicino. The outgoing president, Flavio D’Ambrosi, emerged victorious, securing re-election with 444 votes against the 442 obtained by his rival, Fabrizio Baldantoni, who narrowly missed the presidency. The third candidate, Giuseppe Macchiarola, withdrew from the race before the voting, announcing his decision at the end of his speech during the assembly.

Supporting the president during this new Olympic cycle (2024–2028) will be a team of ten board members, mostly comprised of fresh and promising additions. The highest vote-getter among club representatives was Massimo Bugada (386 votes), followed by Andrea Locatelli (382), Marco Consolati (363), Giovanni De Carolis (352), Rosario Africano (349), Terry Gordini (330), and Mariangela Verna (329). It was a relatively tight race. Representing athletes on the council will be Luca Rigoldi (36 votes) and Roberta Bonatti (30), while Biagio Zurlo (23) will represent coaches. Roberto Carbini was re-elected as the auditor with 458 votes.

Now that the electoral campaign is over, the real challenge begins: balancing the books not just for the Federation but for the entire Italian boxing movement. Many promises were made, and significant changes were hoped for. Now, we must wait for action, watch as sleeves are rolled up, and hope for the long-awaited resurgence of Italian boxing. Best wishes to the newly elected officials, but above all, to us, the boxing community! May these ambitions move beyond utopia and become a reality…
