Italian Boxing Trainer Luciano “Ciano” Sarti Dies at 83

A historic figure in Italian boxing has passed away. Renowned trainer Luciano Sarti, known as “Ciano”, has died at the age of 83, as sadly announced just a short while ago by former boxer Cristian Sanavia, who reached the pinnacle of the sport under Sarti’s guidance.

A former professional boxer, “Ciano” won the Italian middleweight title twice and took part in numerous thrilling battles for the national championship belt, facing opponents such as Mario Lamagna, Carlo Duran, Domenico Tiberia, and Angelo Jacopucci.

After hanging up his gloves, he devoted himself to teaching the Noble Art at the historic Padova Ring boxing gym, becoming a guiding figure for generations of athletes.

As mentioned earlier, the crowning achievement of his coaching career came on June 5, 2004, when Cristian Sanavia defeated Germany’s Markus Beyer on points to capture the WBC super middleweight world title at the Chemnitz Arena in Germany.

These are the words with which Sanavia himself paid tribute to trainer Sarti today:

“Goodbye, Coach Ciano! The news has broken my heart 💔 You were like a father to me.”

Boxe Punch extends its heartfelt condolences to Luciano’s family and all his loved ones.
