Obaid Dominates Demontis to Retain Italian Flyweight Title

A memorable atmosphere filled Piazza del Popolo in Ascoli Piceno last night for the boxing event promoted by A&B Events and Team Magnesi. The square was packed with enthusiastic fans, providing a magnificent setting for an evening featuring several important championship bouts. Among them was the Italian Flyweight Championship, where Ahmed “Gentleman” Obaid (9-7-3) successfully defended his title against Marco Demontis (5-1-1). After ten rounds, the reigning champion retained his crown by unanimous decision with identical scorecards of 99-91, 99-91, and 99-91.

Fight Recap

The opening bell rang and there was no feeling-out process, as both fighters came out aggressively. Demontis took the center of the ring, displaying plenty of movement with both his feet and upper body. Obaid looked to slow the challenger’s advance, establishing his range with the jab and making full use of his reach.

In the second round, the champion repeatedly landed a sharp, fast one-two combination that proved highly effective, complemented by an excellent jab. After a promising start, Demontis began to struggle to impose his pace.

Obaid continued circling the ring in the third, landing clean, accurate punches whenever he stepped back into range. Demontis found no answer to the champion’s unpredictable timing.

The fourth round featured several impressive two-handed combinations from Obaid, while swelling began to appear around Demontis’ left eye. Calm and composed, the champion continued to execute a game plan that was working perfectly.

Obaid controlled the bout with his superior reach, preventing Demontis from getting inside and establishing his own style against an opponent whose timing remained difficult to read.

The challenger showed signs of improvement in the seventh round, managing to close the distance and land a few single shots reminiscent of his strong opening round. Nevertheless, Obaid kept moving and consistently slipped away from danger.

The champion’s right uppercut was particularly effective throughout the fight, repeatedly finding the target. Trailing by five points on all three official scorecards after seven rounds, Demontis began loading up on every punch in search of a turnaround.

Over the final two rounds, Obaid actually increased his work rate. His whip-like one-two combinations repeatedly crashed into Demontis’ swollen left eye, leaving the challenger with no option but to concede a clear points defeat.

Ahmed Obaid continues to look like a formidable champion in the flyweight division and a difficult man to dethrone. With each performance, he appears to be an even more complete fighter than he was in his previous outing.
