Shane McGuigan is a former boxer and a trainer. A man who has made sport a life goal, not only for himself but also with an eye toward those less fortunate. That’s why he runs—with the commitment and dedication that only a great athlete truly understands. On Sunday, April 26, he will line up at the start of the London Marathon.

He will be there for himself, aiming to complete the race in a time between 2 hours and 39 minutes and 2 hours and 43 minutes, but also for others, with the goal of raising funds for a charitable organization.

McGuigan runs in memory of his beloved sister Danika, who passed away in 2019 at just 33 years old after battling leukemia.

He runs to support a charity that helps the families of cancer patients by providing refuge accommodations in London—housing they could not otherwise afford. These are much more than simple shelters: they are spaces where people can find psychological counseling and support to cope with grief.

Now, for Sunday, Shane McGuigan’s goal is to achieve a strong finish to attract new sponsors and keep the spotlight on his noble cause.

And he will surely do well because, like any former boxer, he won’t be fighting on the asphalt just for Danika and the charity, but also for himself. Because, as Sandro Mazzinghi once said, “a boxer wins with his heart, not just with his fists.”

Boxing teaches that if you want to be a winner, you must fight through all the challenges life puts in front of you—not just inside the ring. Being a winner is a way of seeing the world that goes beyond results.
