Stephanie Silva will attempt to seize Jasmine Artiga’s WBA world title!

A new world opportunity for our Stephanie Silva! The Italian boxer will have the chance to face the WBA women’s super flyweight world champion Jasmine Artiga on December 13 in the United States, specifically at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida. For Silva, this will be the second world opportunity of her career, after the unsuccessful attempt in 2023.

Silva will enter this major event with a record of ten victories and just one defeat, suffered during her first trip to the States when she faced the experienced Mexican fighter Irma Garcia. The latter won on points, capturing the vacant IBF title of the division.

Now Stephanie feels more ready and better prepared for what awaits her, thanks to her previous experience and the confidence gained from winning the WBC Silver Title, earned this summer at the expense of the relentless Spanish boxer Mary Romero.

Silva’s task, as is always the case when aiming for the top of the world, will not be an easy one. Artiga is unbeaten, with a record of fourteen wins and one draw, and a knockout percentage of 50%, quite high by women’s boxing standards. The American is a southpaw with a very aggressive style, fond of close exchanges and accustomed to relying mainly on hooks and short uppercuts.

Silva will be at a height disadvantage of about nine centimeters, but this factor should not have too great an impact on the dynamics of the match for two reasons. First, our boxer — characterized by a compact build compared to the average for the division — is more than used to facing taller opponents. Second, Artiga is not accustomed to using straight punches to maintain distance, preferring instead to battle on the inside.

Considering the styles of both fighters, we can likely expect a high-intensity clash. Silva will need to rely on her agility and hand speed to try to neutralize the significant physicality of the world champion, who is nicknamed “The Animal” precisely because of the ferocity she regularly brings to the ring.

The bout will be part of the undercard of a card organized by Boxlab Promotions, headlined by the WBA interim super lightweight title fight between Kevin Hayler Brown and Cletus Seldin. A belt that was won just a few months ago by Alessandro Riguccini, who then vacated it immediately afterward and today does not even appear among the top 15 in the rankings.
